Festivals: Awa Odori

There are a few reasons why I live in Japan and the Awa Odori is one of them. I can’t imagine not being able to jump in the car and head west every summer. I miss it already. There are plenty of photos of the dancers dancing everywhere so here are a few of them mostly not dancing. And a friend wearing a sheep mask.

Cycled since I was a kid, moved to Japan in 2001, bought my first 'serious' camera in 2005. Spent the later half of the 1990s travelling in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Japan, and the Philippines and wish I'd photographed a lot more back then.

  1. These shots are amazing. I have to go next year. Is that Mr. S. in the sheep mask? And just out of curiosity, what film(s) are we looking at here?
